Got to Prioritize

I still look youthful, and for the most part still feel youthful in terms of physical vitality, but I'm starting to feel my age due to the fact that I'd say 90 percent of the people employed at my company are 15 to 20 years younger than me.

I judge based on what I myself look like, but because I myself look so young, I have a hard time telling people's ages. I'm in my forties, but look like I'm in my twenties, so when I see someone that looks like there in there twenties, I may overestimate their age. Point is, some people I thought had to be at least mid-twenties, aren't even legal drinking age! And that makes me feel old.

Most of the people I work with are college students, so they're not idiots, but the maturity level definitely seems to be lacking, and the fact that I notice this, that too is making me feel old. I tell you, I'm working with a bunch of children! Even my supervisor, the punk kid (joking, he's nice) was barely out of diapers when I was starting my first job. That alone has been a big challenge for me, for the first time in my life my bosses are younger than me. And it sucks.

At first, it, working with so many young people, made me feel younger, and to some extent it still does, and definitely working side by side with students has made me more studious, but I'm starting to see a contrast, a generational difference much more apparent to me than ever before, which is making it difficult for me to relate, and is making me yearn all the more to be completely self-employed. Independence is what I'm after, because I've got to tell you these monthly meetings are killing me! It's like kindergarten all over again.

Got to prioritize. My job is working out for the time being, and if all goes well I'll probably be there for another year, maybe two, but I've got to make some changes, because long-term this is not going to work.
